What Have I Done?

I’m home for a few days. Yesterday I made my rounds. Dropped off paperwork, visited with dispatch, went to see my horse, got my eyes checked, oh and I stopped off at the farm store and came home with babies… 9 of them to be exact. Ducklings to be even more exact.

The thing is, ducks are pigs. Actually, I think pigs are cleaner than ducks. Yes they are cute, fluffy, little balls of love, but they love water. And we have done ducks before, 12 flying mallards. They were really cool. Loved them. Really. Just not the mess and extra work they create. But, what is life without work?

I am a chicken lover. Hubs is the duck man. He loves the flying mallards. And since it’s his birthday on Sunday I figured I’d pick up some ducks for him. Sadly I could only get 4 mallards and they had my Black Swedish I’ve been eyeing…. And 2 Khaki Campbell ducks that looked like they needed a home too. And really if you have 4, what’s 5 more?

Right now they are residing in my sunroom but just wait until we get the kiddy pool out. It’s loads of fun. And mud….. But, we will not have crickets this year, which I have missed about having ducks. They LOVE crickets!!

Oh Annabelle I'm sorry to hear about your knee. What happened and what is the recovery going to be like? Keep your chin up, and I'm hoping atleast you can get outside to enjoy the sunshine…. I'll be sending healing thoughts your way :)

Steph~ Exactly. We had to put down one of my red production hens on Monday night. So I'm happy to add new life and smiles to the farm this week.

Bonnie~ Yes I've been busy! Tomorrow though I'm not going anywhere!! I'm staying right here and enjoying the farm!!

Thanks for the healing thoughts, Bethany……they do help! I was looking at the ocean and marveling over how rough and beautiful it looked and bam!!! tripped over one of those parking cement things ( technical term ) and landed hard on one knee. Luckily it is one vertical fracture and will heal on it’s own…..with the help of full leg brace, crutches, physical therapy. Waiting for bone growth now….well see how it is going at my next De. appt June 3rd. Off all meds and crutches most of the time, so I am able to get out into the garden. I enjoy reading your tweets and stories…photos are great…so, thanks!

  5. Happy birthday to your Hubs! Sorry about your hen, and hope you can get a duckling video posted. Enjoy your day Bethany!

Annabelle~ Try Bone Builder. Hubs used it when he crushed both of his heels and busted his femur. It's homeopathic, and I found it at a health food store. He swears it helped!

Lou~ Thank you so much. I'll work on the duckling video and more picts of the babies… they are growing in leaps and bounds!

  7. Annabelle says:

Thanks! Bethany, will pick some up today and give it a try. Looking forward to 600′ of lilac photos….gonna be a gorgeous site! And of course more duckling pix!

  8. The khaki campbell hens are amazing egg layers. I have on that's three years old and she just keeps popping them out pretty much every day. She's been laying so long she doesn't seem to even notice when she has an egg in the works–they just roll out behind her while she's poking about in the grass.
