My Green Thumb is Itching!

Although I’ve been a little lost without Rosie the past few weeks, I haven’t been sitting around doing nothing on my time off. My green thumb has been itching, so I’ve been getting my garden ready to go.

Well, I’m sort of trying to get it ready to go since there is quite a bit of snow covering my garden yet. I am in garden mode though. I have been dreaming about planting seeds. And ordering seeds. And changing my garden around in my head.

I have finally come to the conclusion that with all the weeds we had last year I decided to go a different route and turn my whole garden into raised beds rather than the regular rows we are use to.

I already have two raised beds for my garlic and arugula but I wanted more! I just think it’s smart.

So this week I stole hubs shop & tools and I’ve been making raised beds in the comfort of a heated shop. I will have 9 beds that are 10″ high, and 3×6  feet and 3 beds that will be 3×3 feet for my flowers and herbs.

I decided to go with 10′ sides using pine. I know a lot of people use treated wood, but I don’t want those chemicals seeping into our ground or my vegetables. I only spent $150.00 on wood and a couple boxes of screws so I’m  pretty happy with the outcome. Someday I’ll have cedar, but until then, these should work just fine!

Incase your looking for some awesome seeds I would suggest these seed dealers:

This is going to be the layout for my garden.

We will have all of the corn, watermelons,  another crop of potatoes and tomatoes in the big garden too.

You've been busy while you've been off. Lay out looks real good!!

  2. NNice set up you have there! Trucker, gardener, soap maker, chef…. what don't you do Miss Bethany??!

    • David~ Thank you. Oh there is a lot I don't do, but it's on the list "to do" at some point! LOL Have to keep busy!

  3. Green with envy, ths downside to living in the city with no balcony is the lack of out door space to grow stuff. You aren't going to try for garlic or any onions?

    • Veronika~ My garlic was planted last fall, so that should be coming up momentarily… I planted my whole garlic bed full so I should have a good crop. If it ever warms up here! And Yes, I forgot the onions. There will be a bunch of those too!
