The Farm- Summer Thus Far

Does anyone else hear the crickets around here? Hello? I apologize. I’ve been busy and Verizon wireless has been really, really making life difficult, since the only time as of late I’ve had time to sit and look at my ‘puter has been when I’m on the road and my little wireless do-hicky has NOT been working properly. So last night I finally broke down and called them to complain. I told them my wireless device was going to be placed under my drive tire and if they did not fix it right now, I was driving over it, smashing it to smithereens and then I was saying to heck with Verizon.

Luckily the very nice fellow has seemed to fix it (knock on wood) and I’m now kicking myself in the butt for not calling a month and a half ago. So, hopefully I’m back, and I have so much to tell you all. Today I will start with the farm. It’s literally bursting at the seams. Yahoo!

Right now, I just hate to be gone for too long since every day I’m gone I am missing out on something more blooming. This year I have a ton of peppers popping up and I have plans to put up as much as possible since I’m always topping my sandwiches with them. It’ll be something I’ve yet to can, and one thing less that I must buy at a store!

I also have a zillion cucumbers coming in and I am not exaggerating one bit–I may have planted WAY too many. I’m sure I will be eating cucumber sandwiches, and canning pickles until they are literally coming out of my ears! Anyone have a good pickle recipe?

And corn? We have corn. I’m guessing we will be eating it by the time I get home from this trip. We have 3 varieties and one was looking like it was almost ready when I left. I too will be freezing corn for the long winter ahead! And thankfully the corn is never wasted. What we don’t eat, we leave standing for the pheasants, deer, and other birds to munch on all winter long.

I will be back with more news & happenings soon! xo

Bethany About Bethany

I am a prisoner of the highway, farmer and lover of Mother Nature, the moon and stars, my long and low, flat-top Peterbilt, chickens, cats, dogs, horses, cooking, photography, tattoos, tea pots and vintage barnifacts…among other things. I’m also a very, happily married, third-generation truck driver. My career choice is both demanding and rewarding, just like most things in life that are truly good.
