Dolly the Duck

We’ve had ducks over the years. And, of course we’ve loved every single one of them. They become family and we enjoy all of their different personalities and quirks. All of our other ducks though, could never hold a candle to Dolly.

Dolly is a dolly. She has a kind soul and the way she looks at me makes me think she knows she was saved by us. She follows us all over the property bringing Rufus and the rest of the clan with her. She is nosy- she has to mouth everything that she comes in contact with. She walks up the steps and taps on the door, as if to let us know she’s ready for treat.

I laid in the grass just relaxing and watching them hunt around for goodies. Both the ducks and chickens could not figure out why in the world I was down on the ground at their level.

It didn’t take long before I had both Dolly and Rufus checking me out. I’ve never felt a duck nibble before, until now– it tickles!

It was an absolutely perfect afternoon…

All animals except man, know that the principal business of life is to enjoy it.

Bethany About Bethany

I am a prisoner of the highway, farmer and lover of Mother Nature, the moon and stars, my long and low, flat-top Peterbilt, chickens, cats, dogs, horses, cooking, photography, tattoos, tea pots and vintage barnifacts…among other things. I’m also a very, happily married, third-generation truck driver. My career choice is both demanding and rewarding, just like most things in life that are truly good.

    I really like this post!
Now, when you write about how truckers are just like everyone else; with families and homes/farms, etc…you can add and we lay in the grass with chickens and ducks too :).

  3. This city girl loves your sweet posts

  4. I had to get my Dolly fix today. What a sweetheart.
