Just One Guy
So I’m sitting in Ontario California. Been here since yesterday, and you see all kinds of people from all walks of life. Today, Darryl pulled in next to me and we got to talking about trucking, our life on the road, and what we do in life out side of trucking.
I thought I would tell you a little about our conversation. Darryl has been trucking for 20+ years, was in the Navy, is about to go pro in the art of cage fighting, and works hard for his living with his 92 Pete. Now I know there are a lot of guys and gals who do the same but he piqued my interest since he does even more than that.
He showed me pictures of his truck, something he has built up to a pretty nice looking Pete, since he told me the truck was once a well worn coal hauling truck. He had pictures of him rebuilding his hood on his own, in the snow, outside since that was what he had to work with. He also did the body work himself, and this is something you just don’t see so much anymore. One day he plans on saving enough money to buy a small acreage and building a truck shop/auto shop with cash as he can afford it. Above and beyond that Darryl gives and it sounds as if his plans and dreams will come after giving to others.
I know, that sounds funny but what I’m saying is he does things for other people and it’s something he is really proud of. Recently he donated school supplies to a school in Minnesota just because he could. He just decided there were kids who needed help and he did it. Now that is one heck of a trucker in my book!
