The Magical Hummingbird Moth

Most people mistake this little guy for a hummingbird or bee. I absolutely adore these little guys although I don't think I had ever seen one until I moved down to Southwestern Minnesota. For years I have been trying to catch these guys in action, but they are quick and usually hard to get photos of. I lucked out while we were enjoying the beautiful weather and a beer up by the garden the other night. This guy seemed amused by us, and let me get very close which I was thrilled with! For everyone who poo-pooed me on planting early, all I can say this year is I GOT LUCKY! This is the best stand of carrots I've ever had thus far! I am dreaming of carrot soup, glazed carrots, carrot cake and so on and so forth! These raspberries were just planted last year, and are obviously prolific little buggers. Raspberry jam anyone? Okay, we are really not "snow bound" but we did get enough snow over the night that neither Hubs or I were in any hurry to go anywhere today. Luckily I made it home with perfect timing on Monday night, and Hubs decided to played hooky with me today. Not too much has been going on around here, Hubs has been moving snow & I've been doing the normal household chores, with a little break in between for a good walk around the property to assess the damage.
