The Work I Create!

Garden in Spring

Last March, while I was waiting for Rosie to be rebuilt (for the second time) I needed something to do with myself! Rather than sitting on the couch in a depressed state, I decided I was going to build raised beds for my garden. Our soil is not the healthiest, and it has been a real headache trying to correct it. I thought if I raised my beds, I could simplify the task of creating healthy soil that will grow healthy plants. Luckily for me I was right but of coarse it's an on-going process. The only thing that did not

End of Season Blues

Fresh Tomatoes

Right now is a hard time of year for me. I absolutely LOVE fall. The crisp weather has me up and outside early even on a frosty morning, but in the same vein, gardening is coming to a close which makes me sad. I keep asking Hubs where our summer went. This weekend we pulled what was left of the red & green tomatoes from the garden. I have all the green tomatoes packed up in the shop for future use, and I slow roasted these babies! Sadly, all that is left in the garden now is lettuce & spinach. There is NOTHING

Organic Bug Control

Hedge Balls

Living on a farm place we have bugs. Actually more than I would like. And since we have an old farm house with an old foundation they have too many ways of sneaking into our home. I absolutely cannot stand all the sprays that are used for bugs but for a long time I didn't have much until I found these ugly brain-like looking creatures in my grocery store one day. These are Hedge apples or hedge balls if you have never come across before and I swear by them! I was a little late on getting them this year and the crickets

A Milo Otis Update

Kittens, Milo Otis

Milo Otis came to visit a few weeks ago. He is growing in leaps and bounds! He stalks everyone and everything! And he is very unaware of his small stature. The bigger his opponent the better he likes it. In this case Sass who weighs in at around 15pounds... No, size does not worry Milo and his 2 pounds of wickedness one bit! He actually had all 3 of my cats scared to death of him!You can still tell he is a baby though, as he loves his naps. On my kitchen table of coarse. He gets pretty relaxed! When my

Sneak Peek

The Shop, Office

Official One Girl Trucking Headquarters Years ago, this little building use to be a hog barn. It is the first thing I fell in love with when I moved to this farm. The house, still today I could take or leave, but this little gem I had to save. As soon as I entered it I had visions of what it could be and I will tell you, it didn't look anything like this. Hubs had boats, a leaky motorbike, and junk piled about as high as the old manure that had been left for the next person to clean up. When we got married, rather

Magic

Yesterday was spent outdoors. Between my garden & my shop, I was busy and didn't finally get to sit down until 7 last night... By then I couldn't stand up either, due to the pain. I didn't really have much choice by then. I'm working on making my shop into my One Girl Trucking studio for writing, photography, gardening, & whatever else blows my skirt up! Pictures will follow at some point. I'm heading back out now, but I wanted to share the magic in my garden. This little female hummingbird about took my

Milo Otis

Milo Otis went home with his new mom yesterday morning. My mother was good enough to drive 3 hours west to meet me and pick up little Milo so he didn't have to be a truck kitty any longer. Although I miss him, and really did enjoy him on the truck with me, he needed room to grow and be a kitten! He went to a great home (more than great really) and has a tons of room to run around and play like he should have. He has already found his place at his new home where he knows he's safe... Even if my wonderful father said

And Then There Was One…. (More)

Meet Milo We were gone this weekend celebrating our upcoming anniversary since I will be working on the actual day. When we came home yesterday, there was a furry lump laying up against the barn door. I made hubs stop the vehicle and ran over to check, worrying something had gotten into our barn and hurt our chickens & ducks. I was wrong. It was a kitten. Milo the kitten. The name was on my tongue as soon as he looked up at me. I'm guessing the chickens and ducks were the only sign of life around our place, so

I Have Rules!

No cats on the table! I try to rule with an iron fist. Hahaha... As I was making pizza yesterday Sweet Pea jumped up on the kitchen table.   She bee-lined straight for my fresh bouquet of Zinnias.   And sniffed, rubbed up against, and nibbled on a few of the zinnias. As I stood right there with camera in hand, she didn't care one bit if I was there or not. I think she forgot she was on my table... And really, if she loves flowers as much as I do, even on the kitchen table, I can appreciate that.

Just Look

There are people on vacation. There are people that want to go on vacation but can't. You may be on vacation even as you read this. For me though, since I drive my life away I am very happy to be planted on my own soil. Sometimes though, I work too hard and keep too busy to really enjoy my home time as much as I should. Every once in a while though, I slow down just little. I did just that this afternoon and I have a date with myself again tomorrow to do the same. A little while ago I walked our property
