The Magical Hummingbird Moth

Sphinx Moth, Hummingbird Moth

Most people mistake this little guy for a hummingbird or bee. I absolutely adore these little guys although I don't think I had ever seen one until I moved down to Southwestern Minnesota. For years I have been trying to catch these guys in action, but they are quick and usually hard to get photos of. I lucked out while we were enjoying the beautiful weather and a beer up by the garden the other night. This guy seemed amused by us, and let me get very close which I was thrilled with!  The Hummingbird Moth

How My Garden Grows

Garden, Organic, Carrot

For everyone who poo-pooed me on planting early, all I can say this year is I GOT LUCKY! This is the best stand of carrots I've ever had thus far! I am dreaming of carrot soup, glazed carrots, carrot cake and so on and so forth! These raspberries were just planted last year, and are obviously prolific little buggers. Raspberry jam anyone? My garlic is growing great guns too, even if my girls beat the hell out of them early on! I really didn't think they would make it, but they look good so far! I am SO

Spring Blooms & Spring Skies

The Farm

I have been home for a  few days now, and I had only been gone a few weeks with a quick weekend home in between but, spring seems to have swept through, waved her magic wand and brought everything into bloom here on the farm.  It's beautiful of coarse, but I'm not sure I am processing it like I would any other year. My brain seems stuck. It seems to be use to the nice weather we had in December, January and February but the actual spring that we usually enjoy has just never happened for me. Along with all the

Just a Short Little Ditty About a Bird Her Beer

http://youtu.be/-dXJ6TXwMgQ   This is Henny Penny one of my oldest girls. While we were enjoying a beer she jumped up and helped herself to a few sips of Hubs drink. It didn't seem to go to her head, and we did not let her drive anywhere.

What do you love about Home?

Migrating Geese

If you peruse this here website even a little you know that I love where I live and that I adore our farm. I suppose I am a walking contradiction, since I always want to be home, just as much as I want to be out on the road trucking. When my wagon is loaded, and it is time to truck I set my sights on the road and what I'll encounter along the way. When my wagon is empty and it is time to go home, I am like a horse with a bit in its mouth heading for the barn. There really is no stopping me and I can't wait to get

Mr. Chewy-Spot On For Pet People

mc-logo

Recently, I received an invite to review the online pet food retailer Mr. Chewy. As you all know I love my animals and anytime I get the chance to make feeding them & spoiling them better and easier, I am on it! I have to say that, since I am the go-getter of groceries, pet food, and anything else that involves shopping, the idea of ordering food for my cats online and having it delivered right to my door really thrills me.  If it's one less thing I have to drag out of the store, into the truck and then back

It’s Never Too Late

Crocus Flowers

Every fall I buy mass quantities of bulbs for my gardens, for under our maple trees, for anywhere I can possibly stick them in the ground, and every year without fail I am on the road just a little too much or I'm just too dang busy with other things to get them all dug in before the frost or poor weather sets in. Yet every year I enjoy these bulbs that have seemingly ended up sitting in my shop, left to dry up and go to waste. Luckily for me, I have beautiful south facing windows in my shop, and it sits at a

Snow Bound

Pine Tree, Ice

Okay, we are really not "snow bound" but we did get enough snow over the night that neither Hubs or I were in any hurry to go anywhere today. Luckily I made it home with perfect timing on Monday night, and Hubs decided to played hooky with me today. Not too much has been going on around here, Hubs has been moving snow & I've been doing the normal household chores, with a little break in between for a good walk around the property to assess the damage. That is the look of concentration! Notice Rosie all
