So. One thing in the trucking industry that is really bothering me lately is all of this crap Swift, JB Hunt, Werner, C.R England, Prime, and Crete (I could go on and on with names here) are doing when hiring unqualified drivers who couldn't hold a job at Mc Donald's. There are a lot of people who DO NOT belong in a truck but our wonderful government is looking the other way because these big companies can throw their money and weight around. Did you know most companies have the authority to both train and license
How I live
One thing I want to do with this blog is show people how truckers live in trucks. Since I'm sitting in Texas and it's raining out I thought I'd take the time to shoot a few photos of Rosie and how I live. This is the cab view. It's what I look at all day or night long. Rosie has 21 gauges that tell me oil pressure, speed, RPM's, fuel levels, fuel pressure, voltage, air pressure, oil temperature, and most everything in between that I need to know as to how my engine is running. She also has 20 switches that run lights
Weekend Work
One thing you have to do when you own a truck is work on trucks... If you want to comply (and you should) with all state and federal regulations you need to have a good maintenance program. When there is something wrong it needs to be fixed no matter how small or costly. If you don't, you run the risk of having a road side inspection and failing or getting more gray hair than I need at my young (ha!) age. You then have to pay big bucks to have Joe Blow come fix the problem(s) on the side of the road and you lose time
That time of Year
Dry roads, 12 degrees above zero, and stars early Saturday morning gave me a false sense of hope as I run east on I80 hoping that my just being sick and wanting to crawl into my sleeper would be all I would have to fight with that day. Unfortunately as I was coming into Rock Springs WY I came upon a sign that said I80 was closed at Sinclair WY which didn't really bother me since I get off at Rawlins and head up into Casper. Of coarse I was wondering if there was an accident or bad weather on Elk Mountain... I kind of
Just Shoot Me!
I am on my return from California right now. And I'm sick. This is one major downfall of trucking. It started on my way out here, but I wasn't too worried. I figured I'd kick it but no luck. I had a perfect day yesterday as far as trucking goes, because I was unloaded an hour and a half earlier than my appointment and loaded with 20 pallets of tomatoes to bring back to St Paul before noon local time. I think between the two people loading my wagon they whipped them 'maters on in around 15 minutes. Yep, I could have been
Work Clothes for Women
I love trucking. You knew that right? With that comes some dirty work and I am always ruining my clothes when I have to unload, grease my truck, or change oil. There is a plethora of mens wear out in stores for guys who get dirty, but not so much for the women who do the same. Then add in if you want to look nice doing what your doing, then your completely out of luck. Fortunately for me, my dearest mother found Rosie's Work Wear and she bought me a pair of their overalls. All I can say is that they are wonderful!!!
Hot Damn!!
What Gives?
I'm on vacation. You knew that right? It's a driving vacation which suites me well since I like to drive. This vacation is being driven in my grandmothers car and it's probably the most I've driven a four wheeled vehicle in many, many moons. Usually the furthest I go in a car is the 20 miles into town for groceries, and I am rarely ever on a 4 lane road in a 4 wheeler because I live in the boonies and spend most of my time in my truck. So, here's the thing or my conclusion anyway. People are just shitty drivers. They
Follow the Moon
For most of my career trucking I have run at night. My favorite reason being, nights like the other night when the moon led the way. My trucking company is aptly named Quarter Moon Express because of nights like this. I am so lucky to see mother nature at her best and worst. I'm in it knee deep day in and day out and there is always something new to see. A few things that I have experienced over the years.... Miles and miles of beautiful red Poppies in California Salmon flecked with sun, skimming the lazy waters
