It is that time of year again. The Big Iron Classic has come and gone as of today. It's something we look forward to each year, and as always we always have a blast! It is not a competition truck show, but a place where friends and family meet up to share their love & passion for trucks. You can find out more about the Big Iron Classic and the fine folks who make it happen here and here! Here are a few pictures from the weekend! I will have more up tomorrow~ Hope you enjoy! September 11 A Day of Remembrance
10 years ago today I was delivering a load of frozen pasta just north of the Dallas Fort Worth Airport. The cold storage was pretty much located right under the planes that were taking off and landing that morning. I had delivered here many times, and even though the noise of the planes was a constant in the background, you got use to it pretty fast. I had been taking a nap waiting for my trailer to be unloaded that morning when I had another driver pound on my door screaming at me through the glass that we were being
Eating & Living in a Truck
I promised a LONG time ago that I would do a post on eating in a truck and I am finally getting to it. Sorry for the delay! I really try to eat healthy while on the road, but more than that I want easy and tasty to go with it-sometimes even more so than healthy. I have a two rules that I live by in my truck, so I limit myself more than some, but I think I make do quite well. I never want to get out of my truck smelling like food of any kind & I don't want a mess in Rosie, so these are the rules! I will not
Trucking, Training & the Mentality of Others
A few weeks ago when I went to pick up my loaded trailer I run into a driver I have known for some time. He is a company driver for one of the accounts I haul for. He has always been fun to talk to, so of coarse when I walked into the guard shack we gave each other a bit of shit, told a story or two and caught up on where we have been. Finally as I was going to walk out the door to go get my trailer I asked him if he was going out or coming back in, to which he replied that he wouldn’t be driving for the next two
Why Would I have such a Nightmare?
This morning I feel as if I didn’t rest at all. I’m guessing it was because of the nightmare I had. I don’t have typical dreams it seems. Seeing as I have lived in a truck for so many years my dreams/nightmares tend to revolve around trucks & trucking. When I have nightmares, I don’t have the normal falling to the ground nightmares where you wake just before you hit the ground, rather I have nightmares of Rosie and me tipping over on some mountainside, to which I always wake just before she hits the ground,
Common Courtesy
So last week as I was making my way down HWY 23 in Minnesota I came across a JR Schugel truck, or rather I run up on the JR Schugel truck very quickly, since it was running at very slow speeds. I was running right around 60 mph, which was the posted speed limit. It surely wasn't fast enough to be coming up on another truck & the four-wheelers that trailed behind it like I did. The truck was running between 45 & 50 mph for the most part, but every once in a while the brake lights would come on and it would slow
Seeing the Beauty
Oh life is so busy, forgive my tartiness! Rosie has been having a bit of issues as of late. Nothing major but it's still been a hassle. Phoenix in 108 degree weather, in a tin can, was a bit much for me and I think am still recuperating but we made it none the less. With all of that though, I have been trying to see the beauty. I always try to look and see something I haven't before whether it's here on the farm or on the road. I have to head back out to the garden, so I thought I would share what I have been looking
A Murder of Crows
On my way out to Arizona I stopped at my normal place. Did my normal routine. Except I finally talked a murder of crows into having lunch with me. I had to sweet talk them into it with groceries, but they finally gave in. One thing I love about New Mexico is the crow population. They are my bird. I just love them, and this week I had some left over tortilla shells with me that I had planned on bringing home for the girls. I'm sorry to say though they are not getting the treats this time around. They LOVED the
Be A Prepared Trucker
So last week while home I changed oil, fuel filters and rewired lights on Rosie. I also scrubbed my carpets of all the winter yuck that had accumulated and got her looking and smelling all nice and pretty. Once I was done with the interior I headed to my side boxes to see if they needed a once over too. They needed it. Big time. I pulled everything out and started over, but I'm pretty sure everything except for a pair of winter shoes and Rosies winter front went right back in. Living in a smaller truck like Rosie,
