Magic

Yesterday was spent outdoors. Between my garden & my shop, I was busy and didn't finally get to sit down until 7 last night... By then I couldn't stand up either, due to the pain. I didn't really have much choice by then. I'm working on making my shop into my One Girl Trucking studio for writing, photography, gardening, & whatever else blows my skirt up! Pictures will follow at some point. I'm heading back out now, but I wanted to share the magic in my garden. This little female hummingbird about took my

Spring on the Farm

It's spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~Mark Twain It smells divine around here these days! Our one lone apple tree is blossoming like crazy! I have been working my arse off on my garden. Hubs helped me make 9 more beds and they are all in place. I'm still working on filling each one, but we do have a couple grapes planted, new raspberries which were my

Spring on the Farm-News and Updates

Farm Cat

I have been spending most of my time home outside! Spring has finally arrived at our farm. And we are getting rid of all the snow, although we still have some good banks up against our honey suckle. Easter Sunday, the sun finally shone enough that I was able to get into my garden and start getting my beds ready to plant. Unfortunately I didn't get anything in the ground, but next week, if the weather holds I will. I will be making 4 more 3x6 beds and 4 more 3x3's for this garden space. My garlic & tulips in my

My Green Thumb is Itching!

Although I've been a little lost without Rosie the past few weeks, I haven't been sitting around doing nothing on my time off. My green thumb has been itching, so I've been getting my garden ready to go. Well, I'm sort of trying to get it ready to go since there is quite a bit of snow covering my garden yet. I am in garden mode though. I have been dreaming about planting seeds. And ordering seeds. And changing my garden around in my head. I have finally come to the conclusion that with all the weeds we had last year

Moms Pot Roast

I love to cook. But in reality I don't like to cook things that require too much time or preparation. I'm way too busy with trucks, animals and life in general these days, and I know it's not just me. Luckily though, that does not slow me down on making a damn good meal! And these days, I am of the thinking that a real home cooked meal, (even one that is rich with real butter) is better for you than any crap out of a box or package. And the end result leaves you with leftovers which is ideal for sandwiches or a second

Creamed Chicken

IMG_5520

Years ago, I learned this recipe from my mother. I use to haul frozen chicken for Wendy's fast food restaurants, and every once in a while the place I would deliver to would smash a case or more cases would be shipped than ordered and they would refuse them. The driver would be given the product to get rid of or take home. I was smart and took it to my mom who is such a great cook. This is one of the meals she would whip up with the chicken, and it always tasted so good! Now, Creamed Chicken is something I like to whip

I’m a Lucky Duck!

As I said the other day, I would have gotten more done in the garden without the help of my animals. Lucky for me though, they love us and I don't have a choice as to if I'm alone or not. I think of how boring our lives would be without the companionship of our animals and how lucky we are to be graced by them... Our animals make us laugh, smile, and cry and without them, I for one would be lost. Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms” ~George Eliot

At Play

Yesterday afternoon was a work in the garden day. The weather finally turned around and it was enjoyable to be outside again. I just hope it lasts... Like until January! Although I did get a ton of work done, I have to be honest and say if my camera, two cats, 8 ducks, and 7 chickens had not joined me in the garden, I would have gotten even more done but it wouldn't have been half as entertaining! Up first in my day of photos is Squeak & Sadie. Ducks or Chickens tomorrow. You'll have to check back and see. I'm

I Made Soup!

Today I'm blogging from sunny Arizona and I almost feel funny writing this while sitting 89 degree weather, but I will anyway. This week found me home for oh, only about 24 hours. It would have been even shorter if hubs hadn't hooked onto my wagon and delivered my melons for me. Since he was so good to me, I had no choice but to stay home, and enjoy a glorious fall afternoon. For some reason, I thrive on days like this. I should have been tired and doing nothing more than laying around on my sweet couch, blogging like

Flora & Fauna

Babies! This year, I think we have more weeds than flowers. Luckily though my Cosmos and sunflowers are doing great! The ducks are still changing. For sure we have one drake mallard. The rest are changing too, I'm just not sure into what as of yet! The hens are doing well.... Ugly Betty disappeared again for over two weeks. I had resigned myself to the idea she was no longer with us. But, as old Ugly Betty does, she showed up last Sunday morning starved. The above is not Ugly Betty. She is locked in the barn with
