The Nicest Thing Someone Ever Did For Me

Roadking Plaque

I have said it many times that I consider myself to be very lucky in the life that I lead.  For the most part, I am living my dream. Sadly though, and I guess its human nature, sometimes I forget just how lucky I am until someone who you have never met before takes it upon themselves to do something for you that not only surprises the hell out of you, but makes you cry. And I don’t cry often! That happened to me last week, last Friday to be exact. And that was before my turbo went to hell! I’ve

Trucking, Training & the Mentality of Others

A few weeks ago when I went to pick up my loaded trailer I run into a driver I have known for some time. He is a company driver for one of the accounts I haul for. He has always been fun to talk to, so of coarse when I walked into the guard shack we gave each other a bit of shit, told a story or two and caught up on where we have been. Finally as I was going to walk out the door to go get my trailer I asked him if he was going out or coming back in, to which he replied that he wouldn’t be driving for the next two

Driver Accountability

I have been following this story since February and honestly it makes me sick.   A driver new to the trucking industry flipped over a CRST truck. I will say right off I do not personally know him, just of him and that is where I am writing this story from. He came to me last fall via Twitter asking if I would help him get a job driving. Below is his message he sent me. For the record, I declined. Hey Bethany can I ask a favor? Could you go to bat for me a lil with schnider_Ben? He's going to bat for me with

Danny’s Big Rig Resort

I have been stopping at Danny’s Big Rig Resort for about 10 years now. In that 10 years I have moved, bought houses, trucks, married my dear Hubs, and a zillion other things that change in life. One thing that has not changed in all that time is the service at Danny’s. I have been going to write a story about Danny’s for some time, but usually I’m not here long enough, I’m dead tired and all I care to do is look at the back of my eyelids or my truck is being rebuilt down the street and I don’t have

Acts of Kindness

IMG_3006

Last night while running across I40 east of Carls Corner New Mexico I stopped to help a fellow driver out. I was running down the road counting the miles until I could park Rosie since I have been under the weather the past few days. I had about 45 miles to go when I could hear another driver asking if anyone had a copy on his radio. No one answered-the air was dead silent. I turned up the volume and waited to see if he would talk again, at about the same time I could see a truck on the side of the road, half way up the

A Story For You…

IMG_4180

Yesterday I ended up in Yuma AZ to load my produce. For the most part it was a perfectly uneventful day. I had two picks in town, one with 13 pallets and my second had only 1 pallet. When I got over to my second drop I was the only truck there, which of coarse I loved! Once I got backed in I walked into the warehouse to move my load locks out of the way for the fork lift driver. He was a nice guy with a big smile, which put me at ease since it was only him and I in the whole place. He put my pallet of asparagus on my

Northwestern Iowa Storm

ia+storm

Since the wind and stormy weather has yet to break in our area, I thought this would be the perfect time for this video. I took this video last Saturday night on my way to Minneapolis, the last leg of my trip. It ended up being quite a ride, as the rain made for moments of low or no visibility. I ended up stopping towards at the end of this video and having supper with hopes of the storm letting up. Sadly, I did not get out of the storm until well after midnight, which made for a long drive. I wish I had the sound of

Not For The Faint of Heart

My Baby

So. The last two weeks have been busy which is part of the reason I've been MIA around here, the other is my wireless connection has been crap. Every time I have hooked up, if I burped, sneezed or blinked I was immediately  kicked off. Finally, after having visions of using both my computer & wireless card as a wheel chock, I gave up trying. Luckily my new wireless doohickey has arrived and I should be good to go from here on out when on the road! I've run two trips to Arizona back to back, and had so many bad

The Truth About Appreciation

tda

A while back a friend of mine suggested that I write a post on the "truth about the trucking industry". I have been mulling it over and over for some months now. Since starting this website I have had so many roller coaster emotions go through me. Some days I want to throw my cell phone and computer out the window, and pretend I'm back in the days of pay phones and CB Radios. I want to be as far away from the "new" people in the industry as I can. And then other days I want to stand up for what I love so much. I just

Big Iron Classic 2010

Sorry it's been quiet here this past week! I've been busy getting Rosie ready for a truck show this past week. This truck show is only 1 of a few I will go to because it's a REAL truck show. With REAL truck drivers and those drivers LOVE their trucks. They are trucking because they LOVE to drive. There isn't anyone here with ulterior motives to try to sell their company, some safety bullshit, get more people to their website, youtube, or be famous in some way. Just truckers and working class trucks. Bottom line is, we
