The Truth About Appreciation

tda

A while back a friend of mine suggested that I write a post on the "truth about the trucking industry". I have been mulling it over and over for some months now. Since starting this website I have had so many roller coaster emotions go through me. Some days I want to throw my cell phone and computer out the window, and pretend I'm back in the days of pay phones and CB Radios. I want to be as far away from the "new" people in the industry as I can. And then other days I want to stand up for what I love so much. I just

Last night, I was treated pretty badly. I don’t think I deserved it, actually I know I didn’t, but I have sat here all day wondering what brought on the behavior that I received last night at my receiver. I had brought produce back to Minnesota from California. It was a normal load that I know these people get all the time. I was earlier than I had said by a half hour, and over an hour early from what the produce buyer and I had agreed upon for my delivery time, which was 9 p.m. so I wasn’t chomping on the bit to

I found this awesome ride in Arizona last week... I'm so sorry I didn't get over to talk to the owner, I was feeling crappy and not worth my salt, but he did pose for me before backing in and I thank you!! I've saw this '55 Kenworth a few times, but luckily on my way home I caught him on the fuel island in Moriarty NM and got to talk with him a bit. The fella that owns this truck runs all over with it, and although he said he gets more attention from the DOT than new trucks, passes with no problems. Sadly, this truck

The Highlander

Miss Bethany presented me with a series of questions about my passion for trucks and how I deal with my profession in today’s world of trucking. I thought I’d answer her in a different context with a story of myself and how I started watching trucks ply the roads as a child. Today I’m known as “The Highlander” and this is my story. As a child, anything with an engine fascinated me. I lived close to a major drag strip and would listen to the cars racing at night off in the distance. This started my passion

A Truck Drivers View #2

For my second driver interview I would like to introduce Paul Tarin or Slimeface as many of you may know him on Flickr and Twitter. I met Paul through Flickr a few years back, and I have to say that before I ever knew a thing about this guy his soulful, eye-catching pictures of the road drew me in. I wanted to know him. I wanted to know how he did what he did with a camera! He took pictures of what I have felt and seen over the years as I’ve drove all over the United States and never could put into words or into a

Good Friends…

One of the benefits of trucking I feel, is meeting new people that have the same love for trucking that I do. Unfortunately, the industry has changed a lot in the last few years and more than not, most people keep to themselves and don't converse like they use to. Years back you would talk to people for information, knowledge, and companionship because another trucker was all that you had out here, miles from home. Sadly, I feel the new breed of truckers coming into the industry are missing out on what I have known, and

Gypsy Spirit

I have gotten a lot of guff from my husband who drives local (and always has) about how I can pack up my truck and "just leave". He has always brought up the fact that I act as if I have no feelings for what I am leaving behind at home and that has always bothered me. Truckers have to go. That's what it's all about and if you sit around and think about what is at home your missing, you'll never leave or if you do, you will be worthless the whole time your gone which is no fun when you have 1500 miles ahead and behind
